AAM Welcomes and Supports Senator Fatima Payman’s Recent Heroic Stance

The Alliance of Australian Muslims (AAM) welcomes and supports Senator Fatima Payman’s recent heroic stance in Canberra, where she condemned Israel’s actions in Gaza as “genocide” and urged the prime minister and her government to impose sanctions on Israel. Senator Payman called on her colleagues to uphold justice and support human rights for the Palestinian people.

Senator Fatima Payman said: “My conscience has been uneasy for far too long, and I must call this out for what it is.” She added, “This is a genocide, and we need to stop pretending otherwise. The lack of clarity, the moral confusion, the indecisiveness is eating at the heart of this nation.”

Her address coincided with the 76th anniversary of the ‘Nakba,’ marking the expulsion and eradication of Palestinian communities during the establishment of the State of Israel in 1948. More than 750,000 Palestinians were forcibly displaced or fled, and over 134,000 have been killed since.

We urge the Australian government to support Senator Payman’s call, show solidarity with the Palestinian people, and seek justice for Palestine and the rights of the Palestinian people. We demand an immediate cessation of the war on Gaza and an end to the plight of the Palestinians, along with sanctions against Israel and stop arms exports from Australia.

The AAM reiterates and repeats Senator Payman’s closing words; WE reiterate, WE support, and WE affirm: “From the river to the sea, Palestine will be free.”
