9th AAM Australian Muslim Community Leaders Summit 2026
On Sunday, 9 August 2026, Muslim community leaders and representatives from across Australia gathered in Sydney for the 9th Alliance of Australian Muslims Australian Muslim Community Leaders Summit.
The Summit brought together leaders from every state and territory to strengthen Muslim unity, coordinate national priorities and respond collectively to the challenges facing Australian Muslims.
The Summit rejected attempts to hold Islam, Australian Muslims, Muslim leaders or Islamic institutions collectively responsible for the criminal actions of individuals. It condemned violence, expressed solidarity with victims and called for responsible political leadership, accurate media reporting and equal protection for all Australians.
National Representation
The Alliance of Australian Muslims represents more than 260 grassroots, mainstream Muslim organisations nationwide and serves as an independent and politically neutral national platform for advocacy, government engagement, media representation, public policy and community development.
The Summit reaffirmed the complementary roles of AAM and the Australian National Imams Council, with ANIC providing national Islamic religious leadership and AAM coordinating broader advocacy and community engagement.
The Summit affirmed that Australia is our country and home. Australian Muslims are an integral part of this nation and are committed to its peace, social harmony, security, prosperity and future. They demonstrate this commitment through responsible citizenship, compliance with Australian law, participation in public life, service to the wider community and contributions to the national interest.
Key Outcomes
The Summit adopted motions to strengthen Muslim unity and collective representation, preserve Islamic identity, protect religious freedom and civil liberties, combat Islamophobia and anti-Palestinian racism, strengthen political and media engagement, support Palestine, improve governance and institutional capacity, and empower young people, women and new Muslims.
The Summit welcomed the Australian Government’s adoption of a number of the recommendations made by the Special Envoy to Combat Islamophobia as an important step forward, and called for the adoption and implementation of all remaining recommendations, supported by appropriate funding, measurable outcomes and clear accountability. It also called for stronger protection of Muslim institutions and victims of Islamophobia, and improved media representation.
Palestine and Global Justice
The Summit reaffirmed its unwavering support for the Palestinian people’s freedom, dignity, justice, self-determination and right of return.
It condemned Israel’s genocide in Gaza, war crimes, unlawful occupation, siege, forced displacement, starvation and destruction of civilian infrastructure, and called for stronger Australian diplomatic, economic, humanitarian and legal action, including appropriate sanctions and accountability.
The Summit also expressed solidarity with people affected by conflict, famine and persecution in Sudan, and with Rohingya, Uyghur and other oppressed communities.
Moving Forward Together
The 9th AAM Summit demonstrated that the Australian Muslim community is increasingly coming together with greater unity, coordination and a shared national direction.
Our community is moving from isolated efforts towards stronger collective action, with Muslim organisations, Imams and community leaders increasingly working together along a common path.
The future of Australian Muslims will be shaped by the strength of our faith, the preservation of our Islamic identity, the unity of our institutions and our willingness to act collectively.
