8th AAM Australian Muslim Community Leaders Summit 2 November 2025
On Sunday, 2 November 2025, more than 150 Muslim community leaders gathered at the Waterview in Bicentennial Park, Sydney, for the 8th AAM National Muslim Leaders Summit. The event came at a time of deep grief and solidarity across our Ummah, particularly with our brothers and sisters in Gaza and now in Sudan.
Over the past two years, Gaza has faced a relentless genocide. The Israeli occupation has killed more than 67,000 Palestinians, mainly women and children. We cannot remain silent while an entire people are systematically erased. The AAM strongly condemns Israel’s ongoing genocide, war crimes and occupation, and calls on the Australian Government to go beyond the recognition of the state of Palestine, to sanction Israel, hold it accountable, and ensure any ceasefire delivers justice, an end to occupation and siege, and true freedom and dignity for the Palestinian people.
Our Mission and Growing Strength
The AAM represents over 260 Muslim organisations nationwide. Our mission is to serve Islam, protect the integrity, dignity and religious freedom of Muslims, preserve Islamic identity, and advocate for the welfare of our community.
Over the past year, the AAM has expanded its membership and strengthened unity through leadership forums and national consultations. The AAM launched national initiatives, including the Muslim Community Fund. The also AAM strengthened its partnerships through key initiatives and gatherings that highlighted the value of unity and cooperation among Muslim organisations, leaders, and community representatives.
This also aligns with the AAM’s Three-Year Political Advocacy & Government Engagement Strategy (2025–2028), which sets clear priorities: evidence-based advocacy, constructive engagement with all political parties, defending civil rights and religious freedoms, strengthening media representation, and empowering youth and women as future community leaders.
Themes and Outcomes of the Summit
The 8th AAM National Summit addressed significant challenges and opportunities for the Muslim community:
- Preserving Islamic identity: Reaffirmed the importance of protecting the integrity and authenticity of Islam in Australia for generations to come.
- Political engagement: Emphasis on civic literacy, maintaining neutrality, and continued advocacy for religious freedom and anti-vilification laws.
- Media engagement: Focused on countering misinformation, media monitoring, training new spokespeople, and supporting a unified national media engagement strategy.
- State & Territory updates: Reports highlighted progress in education, youth programs, social services, and civic participation in the different Australian states.
- Governance and capacity building: Ratified a new board structure, committed to leadership development, and mentoring programs for youth and women.
- National Qur’an Initiative: Endorsed and supported the National Qur’an Initiative, a landmark effort uniting Qur’an institutions and schools across Australia to strengthen Qur’anic education, collaboration, and excellence.
Motions Adopted by the Summit
At the 8th AAM National Summit, the following motions were adopted:
- Unity and collaboration: Strengthen national unity and collective representation for Australian Muslims.
- Leadership and governance: Commit to continuous leadership training, mentoring and capacity building for Imams, religious leaders, women, youth and community leaders and organisations.
- Advocacy for Palestine and global justice: Stand firmly with the Palestinian people, condemn Israel’s illegal occupation and genocide, demand sanctions against Israel, and express solidarity with all oppressed nations, including our brothers and sisters in Sudan, East Turkistan, Burma and around the globe.
- Political engagement: Pursue professional, principled, and neutral engagement with all political parties while promoting civic and political awareness.
- Media and communications: Establish a national Muslim media strategy and training programs to project accurate and dignified representation of the Australian Muslim Community.
- Combating Islamophobia, anti-Muslim Hate and Palestinian Racism: Advocate for stronger anti-hate and anti-discrimination laws and encourage reporting of incidents targeting Muslims and Islamic institutions.
- Building a resilient future: Preserve the Islamic identity and integrity, amplify community voices, and ensure Muslims live with respect, dignity, and belonging in Australia.
A Call to Action for Our Community
The 8th AAM National Summit emphasised that action must follow conviction. The suffering in Gaza calls for a unified, moral, and political response. We urge all Muslims to support the humanitarian efforts, advocate for justice, and hold Australian decisionmakers accountable.
Domestically, we must confront Islamophobia and anti-Muslim hate with courage and determination, by reporting incidents, no matter how small or big they are, engaging constructively with the media, and demanding stronger legal protections for religious freedoms. Preserving our Islamic identity means mentoring our youth, empowering women, and ensuring that our future generations embody the authentic teachings of Islam.

New AAM Board
The 8th AAM National Summit welcomed the newly elected Board, which reflects Australia’s national diversity and fair representation. The Board consists of 18 positions: 15 state representatives and 3 general members elected nationally with representation for each state as follows: NSW (4), VIC (3), QLD (2), WA (2), SA (1), NT (1), TAS (1) and ACT (1), ensuring every Australian state and territory contribute to the national agenda and achieves the Australian Muslim interests.
Our Future Ahead
The 8th AAM National Summit reaffirmed our unity, resilience, and shared purpose. The coming year will see the implementation of the new board structure, expansion of the Muslim Community Fund, stronger political and media advocacy through our Three-Year Strategy (2025–2028), and the launch of national media and leadership initiatives.
By upholding the integrity, dignity, and religious rights and freedom of Muslims, and standing together with unity, courage and purpose, the AAM will continue to strengthen the representation of Australian Muslims on all levels, protect our community, and advance justice for Muslims in Australia and around the world.
